Romeo and Juliet: The new trailer for the latest generation of star crossed lovers

Nothing like age-appropriate casting to beckon young filmgoers to the Bard, as the trailer for a new big-screen interpretation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet hopes to prove once again. Given the heightened emotions on display, Twilight-deprived teens and tweens just might bite.

Seems like almost every generation deserves their version of the star-crossed lovers. Baby Boomers swooned for Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey in Franco Zefferelli’s 1968 rendition. Gen X kids had Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes in Baz Luhrmann’s modern-day 1996 take.

Stepping into the middle of the Bard’s timeless family feud in this 21st-century edition are British newcomer and Whiting look-alike Douglas Booth and Hailee Steinfeld, the Oscar-nominated star of 2010′s True Grit.

Written by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes, who won an original screenplay Oscar for 2001′s Gosford Park, this Romeo also features Damian Lewis of TV’sHomeland as Juliet’s father, Lord Capulet; Paul Giamatti as Friar Laurence; Stellan Skarsgard as the Prince of Verona; and Ed Westwick of TV’s Gossip Girl as Tybalt. No U.S date yet, although the film opens July 26 in the U.K.

Hailee Steinfeld Officially Began Shooting Romeo and Juliet in Italy

Young actors Hailee Steinfeld and Douglas Booth began shooting their film Romeo and Juliet in Italy reports EW.

The film is being directed by Julian Fellowes. He released a statement today about the film saying, ““Every generation is interested in love. I mean, there is something about young love that is heartbreaking, and I think every teenager in the world would agree. All of that is very powerful. The point about teenage love is it’s before cynicism comes in to reshape one’s attitudes. You love when you’re young in a way that you’ll probably never love again.”

Synopsis: A new cinematic adaptation of Shakespeare’s most famous tragedy - Romeo and Juliet are “star crossed lovers”. When two enemy families meet, forbidden love ensues. A William Shakespeare classic.

Hailee Steinfeld ‘Hunger Games’ Honored

As a HUGE fan of The Hunger Games series, I’m super excited to see who will play the role of Katniss Everdeen in the cinematic version. One actress who’s been mentioned is Hailee Steinfeld – who stars alongside Matt Damon and Jeff Bridges in the upcoming Western “True Grit”.

She recently chatted with MTV about the possibility of playing the role.

Hailee Steinfeld for ‘The Hunger Games’

That’s definitely an honor. I didn’t even realize that people were mentioning my name. And, again, it’s every actor’s dream to be recognized for something that they love to do, and to get recognized for that is pretty amazing. I thank the people out there who think that. That would definitely be an honor.

Hailee’s even a fan of the books! “I read the first one—I was in the middle of the second one, and I kind of felt like—I kind of have to read it every time I have a spare moment—and I kind of felt like I was missing something. So I’m rereading the first one just so I can make sure that I get everything. But they’re kind of an incredible book series.
